Downtown Fort Worth Apartments

In short

Downtown Fort Worth holds the 35-block Sundance Square district, the 1895 Tarrant County Courthouse and both of downtown’s rail stations. Since 2019 TEXRail has run from here to DFW Airport, Terminal B, and the Trinity Railway Express goes to downtown Dallas. A free bus loop, the Blue Line, connects all of it.

Where it is

Downtown is the city’s central business district, south of the Trinity River, which bends around its north and west sides. Main Street is its spine: the Tarrant County Courthouse closes the north end, and the Water Gardens and the convention center sit at the south end, near Lancaster Avenue.

Henderson Street, which is State Highway 199, runs along the west side. Commerce and Houston Streets carry Business US 287 through the middle of the grid, and Spur 280, a short freeway, links the east side with I-35W.

What is here

    Sundance Square

A 35-block district of offices, hotels, homes, restaurants and theaters, most of it in historic or rebuilt buildings with brick sidewalks. Its plaza covers 55,000 square feet across two blocks, with four large umbrellas and fountains that light up at night.

  • Bass Performance Hall

Opened in 1998, with 2,056 seats and two 48-foot limestone angels on the front. The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Texas Ballet Theater, Fort Worth Opera and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition all perform here.

    The Water Gardens

A 4.3-acre park from 1974 by Philip Johnson and John Burgee, between Houston and Commerce Streets. In the Active Pool, water falls 38 feet down stepped terraces.

  • A tower turned into homes

Downtown has more homes than its office skyline suggests. The Tower, the former Bank One Tower, was badly damaged by a tornado in March 2000 and reopened as a residential tower in 2005.

Getting around

Fort Worth Central Station, at 9th and Jones Streets on the east side, is the main transit hub of Tarrant County: TEXRail, the Trinity Railway Express, two Amtrak lines, Greyhound and about twenty bays of Trinity Metro buses.

T&P Station, at 1600 Throckmorton Street on the south side, is the other rail stop. It opened in 1931 in Art Deco style, both commuter lines start there, and unlike Central Station it has free parking, reached from West Vickery Boulevard.

  • TEXRail: to DFW Airport, Terminal B, through North Richland Hills and Grapevine.
  • Trinity Railway Express: to CentrePort/DFW Airport, Irving and Dallas Union Station, Monday to Saturday.
  • Blue Line: the free downtown loop once called Molly the Trolley, with stops at Sundance Square, the convention center, the Water Gardens and both stations.
  • Freeways: I-35W, I-30, State Highway 121 and US 287 all meet at the edge of downtown.

Questions about Downtown Fort Worth

Which station is closer to Sundance Square?
Fort Worth Central Station, on the east side at 9th and Jones Streets. T&P Station is on the south side, past the Water Gardens. TEXRail and the Trinity Railway Express stop at both.
Can I live downtown without a car?
For many errands, yes: the Blue Line loop is free, and two rail lines leave from downtown. Before a building goes on your list, we check what you can reach from it on foot, groceries included.
How do I get to DFW Airport from downtown?
TEXRail from Fort Worth Central Station or T&P Station to Terminal B, with no transfer, in about 34 min.
Which school district serves downtown?
Fort Worth ISD. Check the address of any building with the district before you sign.
Does the search cost anything?
Nothing. The building pays us once you have moved in, and that payment does not change your rent.
