Preston Hollow

Preston Hollow is in North Dallas, around Preston Road and Northwest Highway, the two streets most trips here start on. Its edges are not official: most descriptions run it from Northwest Highway north to Royal Lane, between Hillcrest Road on the east and Midway Road or Marsh Lane on the west.

It began as farmland. Developers bought farms here in the 1920s and cut the first lots from them, and Preston Hollow was a town of its own from 1939 until 1945, when it voted to join Dallas. The name comes from the wooded creeks and hollows that run west from Preston Road.

Preston Hollow Park, 7.2 acres on Park Lane, has a softball field, a playground, tennis courts and trails. There is no DART rail station inside the neighborhood: the Green Line stops in Northwest Dallas to the west, and the Red and Orange lines run along US 75 to the east. Start your list here if you drive to work and want to be close to Preston Road and Northwest Highway.

  • Preston Hollow was its own town from 1939 until it joined Dallas in 1945.
  • Its name comes from the wooded creeks and hollows west of Preston Road.
  • Preston Hollow Park, at 6600 Park Lane, covers 7.2 acres and opened in 1947.

White Rock Lake

Loadmaster (David R. Tribble) · CC BY-SA 3.0

White Rock Lake is a 1,015-acre city lake about 5 miles northeast of downtown. Dallas built it as a water supply by damming White Rock Creek: work began in 1910 and the dam was finished in 1911.

Today the lake and its shore are a city park. A 9.33-mile hike-and-bike trail loops around the water, and the Dallas Arboretum and the Bath House Cultural Center are in the park. The lake is in East Dallas, with Lake Highlands to the north.

By train, take the DART Blue Line to White Rock station on Northwest Highway; the White Rock Creek Trail runs from the station to the lake. Start your list here if you want the trail at the end of your street rather than a drive away.

  • White Rock Lake covers 1,015 acres, about 5 miles northeast of downtown.
  • The hike-and-bike trail around it is 9.33 miles long.
  • White Rock station, on the DART Blue Line, connects to the lake by the White Rock Creek Trail.

Communities near White Rock Lake: The Trails of White Rock, The Hayden, Shoreview Flats (listed October 9, 2026; ask us first).

West Dallas

West Dallas is across the Trinity River from downtown. The City of Dallas draws it with I-30 on the south, the Trinity on the east and north, and the river’s West Fork on the west, and most of it lies in the river’s floodplain.

Two bridges tie it to downtown. The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, designed by Santiago Calatrava and opened in March 2012, carries Woodall Rodgers Freeway traffic onto Singleton Boulevard. The Ronald Kirk Bridge, built for cars in 1933, reopened in June 2014 for walking and cycling.

Singleton Boulevard is the main street: it runs west from the bridge past Trinity Groves and Hampton Road, and the Dallas Public Library’s West Dallas branch is on it, at 2332 Singleton. Start your list here if you want to be one bridge away from downtown.

  • The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge opened in March 2012 and links Woodall Rodgers Freeway with Singleton Boulevard.
  • The Ronald Kirk Bridge, built in 1933, reopened for walking and cycling in June 2014.
  • The City of Dallas bounds West Dallas by I-30, the Trinity River and its West Fork.

What we actually do in Dallas

Three things happen here that a listing grid cannot do for you.

  1. 01

    CALLS

Apartment inventory changes. We call the property before presenting a place instead of publishing a stale listing page.

  2. 02

    YOUR LIST, YOUR RULES

Steering a client toward a property for our own benefit is a breach of a broker duty in Texas, not a matter of preference. If you rule an option out, tell us in writing and it stays out.

  3. 03

    DATED

Every rent on this page shows its source and date. Community rents and specials show the day we checked them; a special comes down 30 days after its last check, and a community we haven’t checked in 60 days comes off our pages.
