Bachman station, at the west end of the lake, has DART Green and Orange line trains to downtown, the Medical District and DFW Airport. It sits by the interchange of I-35E and Loop 12, Northwest Highway.

Bachman Lake was built in 1903 by damming Bachman Branch as a water supply for Dallas; it proved too small, and White Rock Lake followed in 1911. The Bachman Water Treatment Plant is the oldest water treatment plant the city still runs. Fishing is allowed, and the lake is stocked with catfish.
