Prestonwood sits in Far North Dallas, around the crossing of Preston Road and Belt Line Road. Three places carry its name: Prestonwood Boulevard, the Prestonwood Town Center shopping center and The Clubs of Prestonwood, a private golf club on Preston Road. Prestonwood Boulevard is a short street, about half a mile long, that runs north from Belt Line Road to Arapaho Road.
Prestonwood Town Center opened in 1979 as a two-level enclosed mall at the northeast corner of Belt Line Road and Montfort Drive, built by Hunt Properties. Preston Road, State Highway 289 since 1939, follows the course of an older road, the Preston Trail, which ran north to Preston Bend on the Red River. That town now lies under Lake Texoma.
