Flower Mound neighborhoods

Flower Mound has one area with its own section so far: the 265-acre business district at the southern edge of town, near Grapevine Lake. The town has zoned the land for a mix of commercial and residential uses, and Lakeside Parkway runs east from Long Prairie Road (FM 2499) across this part of town.

The lake begins about a mile to the west: about 7,280 acres of water, built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Denton Creek, with the 9-mile Northshore Trail along its north shore and Twin Coves Park, which the town runs, offering RV sites, cabins and a boat ramp. DFW Airport is about 22 minutes by car away.

Living in Flower Mound

The town takes its name from a 12.5-acre hill about 50 feet high, near FM 3040 and FM 2499. Peters Colony settlers named it for the hill, which was covered in Indian paintbrush. Grapevine Lake and Marshall Creek form much of its southern boundary.

Residents voted to incorporate in February 1961, to keep the area from being annexed by Irving, and Flower Mound is still, officially, a town. Almost all of Flower Mound is in Denton County, with small areas in Tarrant County.
