Grand Prairie neighborhoods

Grand Prairie has two parts with their own sections. Epic Central is a 172-acre entertainment district off State Highway 161, just north of Interstate 20. Its anchor is Epic Waters, an indoor water park of 80,000 square feet under a retractable roof, open since January 2018, and around it are lawns, trails around a lake, restaurants, hotels and a convention center.

Lake Ridge is the south of the city, around Lake Ridge Parkway, which starts at Interstate 20 and runs south past the northwest side of Joe Pool Lake. The lake covers 7,740 acres, and the city runs two parks on it, Lynn Creek Park and Loyd Park. Neither part has a rail stop. We search the rest of Grand Prairie too.

Living in Grand Prairie

Grand Prairie sits about 13 miles west of downtown Dallas and reaches into four counties: Dallas, Tarrant and Ellis, plus a small piece of Johnson. Interstates 20 and 30 cross it east to west, and State Highway 161, the President George Bush Turnpike, runs north to south.

A. M. Dechman founded the settlement in 1863. The Texas and Pacific Railway arrived in 1876, and in 1877 the town took the name the railroad already used for its stop. Grand Prairie declined to join DART in 1984. Since April 12, 2022, the city has run Via Grand Prairie, a shared ride booked in an app or by phone, which connects with West Irving station on the Trinity Railway Express.

From the middle of Grand Prairie. Drive times without traffic, checked October 2026; rush hour adds time. A city this long north to south gives very different times, so we time the trip from each address on your list.
