Moving to DFW

Moving to Dallas-Fort Worth from somewhere else

You do not have to know the neighborhood yet. Tell us where you will work, how you get around and what you do on weekends, and we narrow it from there.

Timing

When to start looking

Start 45 to 60 days before your move date, about two months. Most communities only hold a unit that far out, because their residents give around 60 days of notice.

Coming from out of town

What you will be asked for

Most communities ask that your household earns about three times the monthly rent. They usually count the full rent, not the price after a special, so check that number before you apply. It is each community’s policy, not a law, and it varies; we tell you theirs before you apply.

Getting around the metroplex

Dallas-Fort Worth is not one city: it spans eleven counties, with Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano and Irving among its principal cities. Two airports serve it, DFW International and Dallas Love Field. Where you land and where you work decide a lot of the search.
